Driving hints in Fiji

In Fiji they drive on the same side of the road as we do in NZ. The road rules are similar to ours but the major difference is the give way rule when turning left. When turning left at an intersection and the other vehicle is turning right they give way to you. So their give way rule is "When turning right give way to all traffic not turning in all other situations give way to traffic on your right"

The National speed limit is 80Km/h. When going through villages it is 50km/h. Most villages have speed humps so beware some are very abrupt

The roads on a whole are in need of repair so adjust your speed accordingly for the hazards such as the pot holes.

At night avoid driving if possible as the roads are not lit and the road markings are not the best. Also there are animals roaming on the road and you need to be very cautious..

During the sugar cane harvest season beware of the cane trucks on the road. They have their loads extending outside the sides of the trucks and this can be particularly hazardous at night as they do not have marker lights
