New Changes to Blood Alcohol Levels

As from 1st December 2014, NZTA have introduced new blood alcohol levels for drivers 20 years and over.

The present level of 0.8 has dropped to 0.5. What does that mean?

This change means that drivers aged 20 years and over must not drive if:

  1. The amount of alcohol in their breath is more than 250 micrograms of alcohol per litre of breath.
  2. The amount of alcohol in their blood is more than 50 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood.

There are no changes to the under 20 year old driver that remains the same at Zero.
