New changes to blood alcohol levels- 1 December 2014

As from 1 December 2014 NZTA will introduce new blood alcohol levels for drivers 20 years and over.

The present level of .08 will drop to .05. What does that mean?

This change means that drivers aged 20 years and over must not drive if:

  1. The amount of alcohol in their breath is more than 250 micrograms of alcohol per litre of breath.
  2. The amount of alcohol in their blood is more than 50 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood
